The name Phoenixalis (Ju huang) comes from the “Classic of Mountains and Rivers” (Shan Hai Jing) where it is given the name Qu niao, sometimes written Ju niao. Here, the artist attempts to further develop the chaotic mysticism of this classic through personal understanding, incorporating disintegrating texts, a plummeting aeroplane and enormous, surrealistic hands to resonate with the portents and essential resilience of the Phoenixalis itself. The message to all of us here is that we might also be free to wander with abandon throughout the passage of our lives …

If one transcended conceptual notions of time however, maybe mountains too might appear as waves upon the earth; the waves, mountain ranges on the sea …
Transcending time, one might still imagine the first humans who left the forests for the coast, going out into an earth just roused from chaos, unaccustomed still to the crashing of the waves. As a bolt of lightening streaks across the horizon where sea and sky converge, the earth rises up in a deep, resounding tremor. At this point, the first man to walk the earth spies the first wave’s breaking crest, borne up amid the tumult of the seas …

Actors in the film are my friends, and we are all post-90’s. But another identity of them is spiritualists.They often sit in meditation,eat vegetarian food, buy captive fish or birds and set them free.And they dialogue with gods,feeling their ownlife all the time.It determines their unique place.They are more independent,
pure and keen than their peers.The first time we met I was attracted by their status, and was deeply moved.I think it was because they get close to the Buddha that makes their magnetic field full of mystery and spirituality.
So I got a long with them for a mounth,and made this film.I took them away from the hubbub,and according their preferences to making costumes and props,let them have an improvised performance,to express their emotional state.Body and emotion is always the most charismatic image language.
And I use the camera to record these naked penance,bundled or sorcery style fragments,and through re-editing to show their questions about life,as well as those naturally occurring answers.

In the film, artist repeatedly builds up and tears off the language logic like the mathematical calculation and makes a non-question expression way.
